Samsung's Tizen Game - Will it be a flop or hit

While Samsung surprised everyone with it's announcement of Tizen phones to make debut in 2013, there is no doubt that Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc started paying close attention. Tizen as the news progressed, it was of thought that it would stand against or even overtake Android, iPhone, WP8. But with first look at the Tizen phones in MWC 2013, then it seemed to be just an another mobile operating system preparing to die or subside.

First look at the user interface of the home screen looks very preliminary and not so appealing to be on par with high end smartphones. The home screen looks 2D and doesn't have that X factor appeal that goes with iPhone or Android. Even the elements in the Tasks screen, where you can choose to close the running apps looks very preliminary. Smudged buttons and not so rounded corners shows clearly that Tizen has to evolve a lot or needs some more years to materialize. Seamlessness is a major factor which makes an operating system click. iPhone, Android, WP8 has got these factors which makes them unique and standout.

Although it was a cautious decision taken by Samsung to have a backup operating system, it cannot make Samsung grow at the same pace as it is now with its Android phones. Samsung bets more on its Galaxy brand, with which it could perpetuate Tizen into the market. But it would see the decline of it very sooner. On a business front it will have a initial reach but it is just going to subside eventually.

While if it is targeted for mid-end or low-end smartphones similar to Nokia's Asha, then it will have its chance of stake there. But with high-end phone market it is very tough or will struggle like BB10. And secondly this might even turn out to be a game spoiler for its Galaxy brand value.
